Luxury Patong hotel offered for sale

9 Jan 2012

The Courtyard by Marriott hotel at Patong has been put up for sale by its proprietors. The 390-room resort hotel just two minutes walk from Patong Beach is being sold with no management contract, allowing the buyer complete freedom over how the establishment is moulded and marketed.

International property consultancy CBRE has been appointed to handle the sale of the Patong hotel as well as a sister Courtyard establishment in Cha-am on the opposite gulf coast. The two hotels have been put up for sale just one week after Courtyard by Marriott owners announced the group had severed ties with Marriott International.

If the sales of the two hotels go through, that will leave proprietors Destination Properties with two establishments in Thailand. Both of these are on Phuket, one at Kamala and the other at Surin Beach. Real estate assessors say the Patong hotel is the most valuable of the three on Phuket.

The Patong Courtyard was revamped in 2008 at the time that Marriott entered into partnership with the owners. The hotel boasts well-appointed rooms, cafés, a restaurant, a roof-top swimming pool, a spa, a fitness centre and a kiddie’s entertainment area.

Annual tourist arrivals at one of the most popular seaside destinations in Southeast Asia have more than doubled in the last five years. Industry insiders say they believe there will be no shortage of takers for a property in the middle of Phuket’s foremost entertainment precinct and abundant attractions.
