12 Sep 2011

The second Phuket Honda Racing Fest will be staged at the island’s Saphan Hin Park this coming weekend. The racing extravaganza will feature three categories which are the Honda Pro Cup, Jazz one-design and Civic one-design.

Winners’ trophies for the event have been donated by Princess Soamsawali. The event will start with practice sessions on Friday, before the actual two days of competitive racing over the two-kilometre track are held on the 17 and 18 of September.

The first Honda races on Phuket were staged at Saphan Hin in November of last year. Organisers estimated that 50,000 spectators attended this event which besides the racing became a real party with stage performances and family entertainment.

Governor Tri Augkaradacha announced the second racing fest at the Honda showroom in Phuket Town last week. The firm’s regional director Oranuch Preukwattananon said that the race fest would feature promotions for the new Honda Jazz as well as a go-kart track, amusements and a hall of fame.

The director added that everybody was welcome to join in the festivities at Saphan Hin and that, judging by the success of last year’s event, the forthcoming event would attract record audiences of Phuket residents and ex-pats.

The race fest will give Honda aficionados the chance of watching precision drivers put vehicles through their paces as well as view the latest offering from the Japanese car manufacturer.
