Phuket regatta begins Wednesday

18 Jul 2011

The eighth Phuket Raceweek sailing regatta begins on Wednesday and offers four days of exciting entertainment. The event is made up of seven yacht classes and is aimed at less serious yachters as well as professional racers.

The different classes of racing include charter, cruising and bareboat. The Six Senses managed Evason Phuket Resort on Bon Island is the focal point for the sailing activities and also the five evenings of diverse amusements and parties.

Opening ceremonies and registration will take place on Wednesday. This will be followed by a party with a Caribbean buffet and steel band at which Phuket Raceweek sponsor Mount Gay Rum will launch its product in Thailand.

From Thursday through to Sunday, races are scheduled from 10:00 onwards with live entertainment and buffets every evening. The racing will take place all along the east coast of Phuket and the yachts and racing should be visible from shore.

Film crews from around the world shoot video footage of this five-star Phuket event and it is then broadcast to many different countries. As well as Mount Gay Rum and Six Senses, among other Phuket Raceweek sponsors are the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Hertz Car Hire, GYBE and Rodenstock.

GYBE is producing limited edition polo shirts for the event. A percentage of the proceeds from shirt sales will be donated to the Ao Chalong Yacht Club.
