Leading hotelier expands Phuket operation

16 May 2011

Global hotel chain Movenpick expanded its presence on Phuket when it took over management of a second resort on the island. Movenpick assumed management responsibilities for the Palm Beach Club on the west coast at Bang Tao from the first of the month.

The resort has been re-branded as Movenpick Residences Laguna Beach and complements the group’s larger landmark resort at Karon Beach. The international hotelier has stated that it will increase its presence in Southeast Asia and Thailand over the next few years and hopes to have six hotels in Thailand by the end of 2013.

The new Movenpick location at Bang Tao Beach is on one of the less busy stretches of Phuket’s shoreline, but is close enough for guests to travel to nightlife and dining venues at Surin Beach. In a media handout the group stated that due to its proximity to the Laguna and Mission Hills golf courses, Laguna Beach would attract fans and players of the game.

The 39 tastefully appointed chalets and suites here offer guests pictorial gardens, a swimming pool and convenient beach access as well as state-of-the-art amenities such as jacuzzis, wireless internet access and DVD home theatre systems. The restaurant serves unique Thai specialities as well as selected international favourites.

Since Movenpick started operations at Karon several years ago it has gained a loyal following and has also hosted a number of seminars and meetings.
