New Phuket to Yangon flight service

14 Mar 2011

Air Bagan is launching a new direct flight service between the Thai holiday isle of Phuket and Yangon, Myanmar’s principal city. Flights will commence on 11 April, immediately prior to the Songkran festival, which both nations celebrate.

When announcing the new twice weekly flights, Sao Thanda Noi, the Myanmese airline’s managing director, said that in conjunction with the inaugural services there would be promotional all-inclusive holiday packages.

Over the Songkran holiday period from 11-15 April a holiday priced at 20,900 Baht includes return airfares, hotel accommodation, meals and tours of Yangon, Kyaikhtiyo and Hongsawadee. Visitors taking the second trip between 15-18 April will be offered a 1,000 Baht discount on the Songkran trip.

The standard price for the return flights has been set at 10,900 Baht and comes with complementary food and drinks in-flight, a bonus that is not always available nowadays with the advent of low cost carriers servicing the global air travel market. The flights will run on Mondays and Fridays.

Upon arrival in Yangon, travellers can take advantage of the new visa-on-arrival service which allows visitors to turn up with two passport-sized photographs and pay the US$30 (910) fee. The service is an easy option for ex-pats wishing to obtain a new Thai entry permit and tourists going to Myanmar as it cuts out the need for travelling to Bangkok and applying there for a visa to travel to Yangon.

The airline says it will open a Phuket office to provide more convenience for its customers, but travel agencies on the island offer reservations at the moment.
