A NEW 600 million baht reservoir has been delayed for several months while approval is sought to build on Forest Department land.
Klong Krata project involves constructing a 25m-high damĀ 730m across the existing Klong Krata stream thus creating a 6.2 million cubic-metre reservoir plus recreational area.
The Klong Krata catchment includes a mountainous zone on the Chalong side of Nakkerd Hills, and the 430-rai reservoir would cover much of the area between Wat Luang Pu Supha and the Nakkerd foothills.
The main purpose would be to water 200 rai of arid farmland found nearby as well as help domestic supplies on the island. The project will have an office found nearby at Ban Nakok.
A 41 million baht initiative is also underway to increase the storage capacity of a pair of tin mine ponds situated behind Phuket Rajabhat University to further aid supplies.
A government spokesman said as soon as the Forest Department Land issue has been resolved the project will move ahead swiftly.
