A PAIR of paddle-crazy Phuket men who planned to travel 14,000 miles to California in a kayak have been forced to postpone their adventure through lack of funds.
Ryan Doran, 26, and Piya ‘Mr X’ Sukunthai, 28, were planning to leave the paradise island on Wednesday and head for Mr Doran’s homeland of the USA on 20ft kayak Say-Lee.
They insist that the mammoth voyage can still happen as long as they manage to raise more cash to ensure they have all necessary safety equipment on board.
The death-defying duo intended to be on the ocean for 20 months and pass through the territories of Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Russia and Japan.
They would then have to brave a 217-mile leg right across the Bering Sea, cosidered amongst the most treacherous expanses of ocean anywhere on the planet.
From there is would be a relatively straightforward jaunt to Alaska, Canada and south to San Franciso where Mr Doran calls home.
