Unsightly cables removed in Old Phuket Town

Phuket’s electricity company is roughly halfway through the task of removing unsightly overhead cables from the island’s historic Old Town. A spokesperson for the Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) said last week that Phase II of the project was almost complete.
Still no lifeguards on Phuket beaches

Phuket provincial authorities say there have been no new bids by companies to take over the lifeguard contract for Phuket’s beaches. The lifeguards’ observation towers at west coast beaches such as Patong and Kamala were left vacant on 2 April when the agreement between Phuket Lifeguard Club and Phuket Provincial Administration (Or-Bor-Jor) ran out.
Gunman robs Kata currency exchange booth

A man robbed a currency exchange booth at gunpoint in one of Phuket’s principal tourist hubs on Saturday evening. Cashier Janya Siwasutam, 29, said she was working alone at the booth when the robbery took place just after 22:00.
Quake aftershocks continue to rock Phuket

The Thai Meteorological Department says that 60 aftershocks have been detected on Phuket during the past week. The southern Thai island witnessed a 4.3 Richter magnitude earthquake last Monday which is the cause of the aftershocks.
Indonesia quake triggers Phuket tsunami alert

Phuket Holidaymakers and residents were evacuated to higher ground last Wednesday after an earthquake off the coast of Indonesia. The 8.7 magnitude struck just after lunch on Wednesday afternoon and triggered tsunami warning alarms on Phuket and along Thailand’s southern Andaman Sea coastlines.
Patong will welcome early Songkran battles

Patong will celebrate the traditional Thai New Year a day earlier than the rest of the country when Songkran on the Beach begins on Thursday. The beach and promenade area of the popular Phuket Island resort will see pitched water fights where the only damage is wet clothes or beachwear.
