Phuket film festival boosts local industry

If you’re heading to Phuket this week make sure you stop by the Phuket Film Festival, which is being held from June 4 – 11th. This is the second annual film festival to be held in Phuket, and has returned after the major success of last year’s event.

There is also a serious side to this year’s event as it seems that Phuket has been losing its appeal as an international destination.

Scott Rosenberg, one of the main organizers of the Phuket Film Festival commented recently to Phuket.com Magazine that Phuket’s film industry needs a serious boost; "Unfortunately, because of recent negative activities having taken place in the Kingdom and continued negative press, Thailand is on the black list for mega film project location shoots. We aim to show the international film industry executives that the situation here is not as bad as it has been made out to be – and there is no better way to do that than to have all the stakeholders create a dialogue to discuss the situation."

A number of celebrities are due to take part in the festival, making this an ideal opportunity for star gazing.
