Ferries to Phuket - ferry timetable

Phuket is actually ‘only just’ an island, separated from the mainland by a narrow channel that is spanned by a causeway. Most the island’s visitors arrive by plane or car, but there are regular ferries linking southern Phuket to Phi Phi Don island, Krabi (Ao Nang Beach) and the Yao islands in Pha Nga bay.

Boats can get crowded in the high season, they aren’t terribly modern nor comfortable but you can sit on the top deck and tan. Be warned about the hazards of over-crowded boats, accidents are frequent. There are also private speed boat transfers for hire at premium rates.

Note! Although ferry times are given below, there are slight departure time variations from one company to the next, but generally all leave at a similar time in the morning or midday. Agents will sell you a ticket which includes transfer and a pickup time which could be up-to an hour before sailing. This is the most practical solution, rather than trying to estimate times and get to the terminal on your own. When you arrive there on your own, you’re also likely to be faced with the confusion of multiple ferries and lots of people. Ultimately you should reckon on a pickup between 7:00am and 7:30am, arriving at the island some time before noon regardless of which agent or company you travel with. Afternoon ferries invoive a 12:30pm pickup, arriving at the destination about 15:00.
