Ferries to Phuket - ferry timetable

Phuket is actually ‘only just’ an island, separated from the mainland by a narrow channel that is spanned by a causeway. Most the island’s visitors arrive by plane or car, but there are regular ferries linking southern Phuket to Phi Phi Don island, Krabi (Ao Nang Beach) and the Yao islands in Pha Nga bay.

Boats can get crowded in the high season, they aren’t terribly modern nor comfortable but you can sit on the top deck and tan. Be warned about the hazards of over-crowded boats, accidents are frequent. There are also private speed boat transfers for hire at premium rates.

NOTE! Although times and rates are quoted below, in reality it’s easier to trust the local travel agent to arrange your passage, and there are plenty of these in the tourist areas or attached to your hotel. They will quote you an all inclusive price which includes transfers to the ferry terminal and pick up time before actually sailing. In general there are ferries to the island leaving in the morning and early afternoon with several companies offering a similar service leaving at roughly the same time. Considering the effort and uncertainty of getting a taxi or bus to the ferry terminal it’s far more practical to let local agents arrange the ticket, their markup is low and you save little trying to do it independently. Thus times and rates might vary from the official ones given below, but it’s the most stress-free option.
