Which Thailand islands?
Within a few hours' boat ride of Phuket - which is an island itself - are some of the most famous islands in Thailand. Pictures of Phi Phi Leh, featured in the movie The Beach, and the the famous James Bond island in The Man with the Golden Gun in Phang Nga Bay, put Southern Thailand on the map. The latter, especially, make great pictures for photographers of all ability.
Other island destinations in Thailand near Phuket include the Similan and Surin islands, which are unspoilt tropical paradises with little development. These places make for serene pictures of your Thailand island escape.
Trips to the islands can be arranged on one of the many day trips organised by travel agents in the tourist areas. Hopefully the pictures here of some of Thailand’s best island hideaways will encourage you to get out and about and enjoy everything the coast has to offer.
Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and lies within the same region as Phang Nga Bay, Khao Lak, Krabi, and the Phi Phi and Lanta islands. It can be reached by car, boat or plane and has the best tourist infrastructure in Thailand. A number of small local islands are also located off the east side of the Phuket.
