Notes on taking pictures in Phuket
Thailand, and particularly Phuket, is a photographer’s delight. It boasts some of the most gorgeous coastal scenery in the world and spoils photographers with great weather. When taking pictures in Phuket, get up early when the skies are clearest, as it gets hazy after 11am.
There are plenty of places in Phuket where you can download your pictures onto disk, and photo shops are found in the main beach areas should you need film or assistance with your camera. Batteries are widely available and memory sticks are sold cheaply at the mall in Phuket Town as well as in tourist areas.
In Phuket, Thais don’t mind having pictures taken of themselves but remember ask first; simply saying ‘Thai ruup dai mai krup/ka (male/female)’. In fact Thais themselves love taking pictures when on vacation in Phuket and their much loved King is a keen photographer. Often students and Thai tourists may ask you, the foreigner, to pose with them in their pictures - please oblige.
